Painted toes, sunkissed skin, long days under the sun.
That’s MY happy place. It’s where I relax, b r e a t h e , and enjoy the little things–like eating homemade turkey sandwiches and drinking a beer while listening to the ripple of the water.
But summertime is more than just dreaming of lounging by the water… it’s also where I am most motivated to focus on ME.
Why? Because that sunshine is out there longer than normal… and I am always feeling like I don’t have enough time during the day to do all the things–a horrible excuse–and now, it’s like I’m being given that time… and you are too.
For me, that looks like getting adequate sleep and then getting outside. Letting all of my worries and to-do lists erase from my mind. Blasting some country or maybe some Lana del Rey and running. Letting go. Being free. Doing me.
I’ve been so beyond busy, but it’s time for me to make my mental and physical health a priority–which is also something I really enjoy doing. And I challenge you to do the same with me. Let’s kick our health and fitness into high gear.
5 reasons to work out for your physical and mental well-being
- It makes you feel good.
Who doesn’t love to feel good?? Working out naturally releases those happy endorphins that set you on a happy path for the rest of your day. It’s one of the main reasons why I love to start my day with an awesome workout. It’s like you made an investment in yourself for the rest of the day… and that’s one of the best investments you can make.
- It helps you forget about whatever is going on in your life.
This can also be that alone time you need, temporarily putting all of that stress in your life to the side and focusing on one thing only–not to die during this workout. In a world that’s so plugged in, we all need some time to ourselves throughout the day.
- You’ll keep burning calories AFTER your workout.
One of the best reasons to work out for your physical health–it keeps you burning calories throughout the day. So, it may have totally sucked and you may have felt like you were going to die, but it was ALL WORTH IT, because your body is continuing to work for you all day long.
- It helps you WIN.
Setting goals for yourself is a huge part of life. You have your dream job, your dream house, your dream life. How are you achieving it? By setting little goals to get to the big picture. Working out is the exact same. Maybe one day you run a mile. The next time you run, you set a goal for two miles. Are you going to let yourself down? No! You’re going to kill it, just like you are with your goals for your everyday life. These wins may start off small, but as you continue to grow in your health journey, these will become greater victories… making you feel like a winner, and that will translate in all areas of your life.
- Because you CAN.
There are so many people in this world wishing to have a body that works. Those people go to therapy all the time–praying, hoping and dreaming of the day their body will work like yours does. Don’t let them down. Don’t let YOURSELF down.
Let’s put ourselves FIRST this summer… and this fall, and this winter… and forever. No matter what is going on in your life, no matter how busy you are, you deserve to feel good.
