My mom gave it to me while I was in high school. It was my first Kate Spade bag. I still have it today. The zippers may not be as black as they once were, but it’s still in excellent condition, and holds something so much greater than just pens and lipgloss–it holds memories.
I remember when I was young, my mom took it with us to the mall, on bike rides, and even to Montana when we visited family friends. The bag hugs my mom in so many family photos. Then, it was mine… and like my mom, it hugged me too through so many adventures… at Disneyland, the beach, long days at school–and the list goes on. It still sits in my closet today, waiting for its next adventure.
“Make every day Saturday.”
Kate Spade was more than an iconic fashion designer. She empowered and encouraged the world through her colorful bags and creative words.
“You are capable of amazing things.”
She broke down closet barriers, reinventing the working woman style–adding a bright palette to what was once a dark wardrobe. She inspired many to follow their dreams and look cute while doing it.
“You can never be overdressed or overeducated.”
Her death is tragic, and shines a light on a dark topic no one likes to discuss.
It’s real. It’s painful. It happens more often than we know.
We all have a role to play in this. We need to remind each other that we are loved. Appreciated. Important. Beautiful. And downright awesome.
“She leaves a little sparkle wherever she goes.”
Kate Spade’s sparkle will live on… on our wallets, our handbags, our hearts. Let that twinkle be a reminder to lend a hand when you see others in need of help.
