Leopard continues to prowl down the runway… ironically next to what would be its prey; the zebra stripes and leopard pattern are juxtaposed with different shades of green and red. Tom Ford also slithered some snakeskin onto the runway. This collection puts a smile on my face; why, do you ask? If it’s not obvious already, I love leopard… but this also opens the door for colors and creativity.
Leopard is a power print all on its own, but by wearing the animal print in different colors, it growls with confidence. It goes against what leopards naturally do; it stands out. It shows who’s boss. It makes an impression–a print, if you will–and it dominated day one of NYFW… I’m all for it.
So, how can we emulate these looks on a modest budget? Get out whatever leopard you own and mix it up. Combine prints. Mix colors. Get out those funky shoes you own. Be confident. Be different. Don’t be afraid to try something.
To help inspire you, I’ve gone through my closet and created this look. I’m wearing vintage 501 Levi’s (they were actually my grandpa Jack’s!!), red Dolce Vita booties, a black Fendi belt, a fun graphic tee, my Marc Jacobs handbag and a Forever21 leopard fur coat. ICYMI: I posted an article about where that coat and where you can buy one for the best deal!
