A commercial comes on.
I drown out the sounds. I enter another world–the digital world of my iPhone.
I wish I could say it’s only when I’m watching TV that I spend some time on my phone, but we all know that’s not true. Obsessed? Yes. Addicted? Maybe.
Today, March 9th is National Day Of Unplugging. When I saw the website, I committed to this day. From sundown to sundown tomorrow, I will not touch my phone. I will not go on social media. I will not check my emails. I will not call or text anyone. It’s just 24 hours; how hard can it be?
Why am I doing this? I know I’m on my phone A LOT. I do it without thinking. I scroll through Instagram, liking pictures of people I’ve never met. I am constantly trying to improve bargainbosss–always looking at other bloggers, reading articles, learning different photo editing apps, scrolling through Instagram, etc. As much as I love this, I know it’s important to breathe. Step away. Focus on what’s important–my little family–by connecting through disconnecting.
Tonight, A.J. and I are going to go out to eat. Instead of me snapping a picture of my food–why do I even do that?–I’ll reach for my fork and dig in right when it comes, instead of trying to get that perfect food shot.
I’m choosing life over technology, good conversation with my husband over comments, my family over followers.
I’m going to relax and enjoy my time technology-free. Every now and then, it’s important to step away and unplug. I challenge you to pledge with me; it’s just 24 hours… how hard can it be?
